Biochemists at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston say the day may be coming when scientists will be able to fine tune enzymes responsible for flavors in fruits and vegetables. In addition, it could lead to environmentally-friendly pest control.

Genetics Reveals Big Fish That Almost Got Away
ScienceDaily (Aug. 21, 2008) — Researchers from the University of Hawaii, the Wildlife Conservation Society, Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, National Marine Fisheries Service and Projecto Meros do Brazil discovered a new species of fish—a grouper that reaches more than six feet in length and can weigh nearly 1,000 pounds. This newly discovered species can be found roaming the tropical reefs of the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

Le sigarette nei film invogliano (ancora) gli adolescenti al fumo
Secondo una ricerca americana del National Cancer Institute la pubblicità e i film sono ancora le principali cause che spingono i giovani all'uso del tabacco. L'industria del tabacco ha speso più di 13 milioni di dollari in pubblicità nel 2005. Inoltre in più di 3/4 dei film sono presenti sigarette e in 1/3 dei casi ne è riconoscibile la marca. La ricerca ha preso in considerazione anche più di 1000 studi scientifici su come i media influenzano i giovani nell'iniziare a fumare.
